Summer is officially here!  Check out the tips below to have a fantastic summer and reach your weight loss goals!

Take Advantage of In-Season Foods

Summer is the time when fresh fruits and vegetables are readily available! Not only are they less expensive at the supermarket, but they taste better as well!  Go to your local Farmer’s Market and pick up a new fruit, vegetable, or herb, and challenge yourself to try using it in a new recipe! Plant a garden to have vegetables easily accessible as well.  Freezing berries, bananas, or grapes can also make for a refreshing sweet treat.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is always important, but it is perhaps more important during these hot and humid summer months. Fill up a water bottle and challenge yourself to finish it several times throughout the day.  Spruce up your water by taking some of those fruits and vegetables and adding them to your water.  Try water flavors such as cucumber mint, raspberry orange, or try or own combination!

Plan Ahead

If you have an event or party coming up, be sure to take some time to think about what kind of food, drinks, and desserts will be there. Plan ahead so you can enjoy your event while staying on-plan to achieve your goals.  This could be eating beforehand, grabbing fruit as dessert instead of cake, or grabbing a smaller plate for your meal and filling half of it with vegetables.  When grilling out, make several portions of your lean meat and vegetables to have for meals throughout the week, or vegetable to grab as a quick snack.

Get Outside and Exercise 

Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather, and an excellent time to try something new!  Whether it be Frisbee golfing, exploring a new hiking trail, or hitting the water in a kayak, challenge yourself to a new activity! Remember that exercise can be broken up throughout the day as well!
